Hagit Oren, Judaic Coordinator facilitated the Sunday Chavurah Class and taught a lesson about Jerusalem and the Shema Prayer. Shema translates to “Hear, O Israel”, is a Jewish prayer that serves as a centerpiece of the morning and evening Jewish prayer service. Everyone who participated enjoyed listening to Israeli and Jewish music.

On Sunday, April 26th Hagit Oren, Judaic Coordinator held a Zoom Chavurah Class.  The class was interactive as Hagit played songs and showed educational clips from YouTube as a way to teach.  The participants learnt about Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah), Israeli Memorial Day (Yom HaZikaron), a national remembrance day observed in Israel for all Israeli military personnel who lost their lives in the struggle that led to the establishment of the State of Israel, and Israel Independence Day which occurred on May 14, 1948. Hagit said all the participants were engaged in learning and were excited to see each other on Zoom!  

Hagit Oren, Judaic Coordinator organized a Zoom Shabbat for the twelve (12) homes.  A delicious Shabbat Dinner was distributed to each home as a  “Thank You” to the Direct Support Professionals and to and be enjoyed by the residents.  The meal was sponsored by a dedicated JSDD Donor.  All the residents were excited to see each other on the Zoom Shabbat gathering!      

Mindy and Dean Baker’s sister lives in the Millburn Group Home.  To show their appreciation to the staff for their amazing commitment during this pandemic,  for the outstanding care they are giving the residents a dinner was dropped off.  They were able to see their sister through the window!

The Livingston Group Home girls were very engaged in creating their masterpieces while at home during the quarantine!
