June is an exciting time at JSDD. In addition to the great weather and the WAE garden taking bloom, June brings the Annual Meeting. It is a time to come together as a community to reflect on the many accomplishments of the past year and to look towards the coming year. Upon arrival, the Board, residents, family members, staff and guests gathered in Heidi Gallery to view the Wizards of Age exhibit before heading downstairs to the WAE Center. While there is business to attend to at the Annual Meeting it is also a time for residents from JSDD’s 15 homes to gather with one another and catch up. FAMILY MEETING

On May 10th, JSDD held its first in-person Family Information Session since before the pandemic. There were more than 35 residential and WAE Center family members in attendance to participate as Linda Press, Executive Director and Harry Klein, WAE Center Director, provided updates on agency activities and shared news about upcoming new projects. In addition, Danielle Crum, Support Coordination Supervisor & Coordinator of Disability Services, JFS MetroWest and Michael Levinson, Chair, MetroWest ABLE discussed Coordinated Care of MetroWest (CCM).  CCM is a service provided to offer short & long-term case management for care plans. WAE Center Welcomes the Kids!

In celebration of National “Take Your Child to Work Day 2023 (04/27/2023), JSDD staff invited their kids to join them for a day of learning and exploration at the WAE Center. 13 young people, between the ages of 8 and 19 participated in the day’s activities. The plan for the day is to give the children a better understanding of what it is that their parents do at their job each day. The day started with a group meeting and a discussion about the history of the WAE Center and its philosophy. Mark Perwien, member of JSDD’s Board of Trustees, and his wife Laurie Goodman have been connected to JSDD for many years. In 2006, they donated a home in Parsippany to the agency. Their son, Artie, along with four other men have been living in this beautiful supportive home ever since. In the fall of last year, with a generous commitment to the agency’s newly established Endowment Fund, they launched the Goodman Perwien Legacy Society helping to ensure that the care and support synonymous with JSDD will continue for years to come. Let’s Do Prom!

JSDD recently had an afternoon to remember. Saturday, March 25th JSDD residents and WAE Center members got glammed up for dancing, posing, and celebrating Prom together. The prom was held at The Brownstone in Paterson, NJ. This spectacular formal event was the vision of Jennifer and Mariah Fay. Jennifer, JSDD’s Director of Nursing Services and her daughter (who is a high school junior) worked together, planning, obtaining grants and generous donations from the community to make the day extravagantly special.     Although Mariah, is still in high school, this was not the first special experience which she created for the men and women of JSDD.
