Film Festival Highlights

WAE Beyond: A Members’ Club will present its first Film Festival on Sunday, March 18, 2012, 1-4 p.m. at JSDD’s WAE (Wellness Arts Enrichment) Center, located at 270 Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange, NJ. Admission to the show is $10, payable at the door.

The Film Festival will feature original short works, reflecting a variety of topics, by members of the WAE Beyond and WAE Centerprograms as well as selected submissions from local filmmakers. Styles include traditional and computer generated animation, live action narrative, and documentary. The longest selection (18 minutes) is Breaking Boundaries: the Art of Alex Masket, a documentary by Dennis Connors about a 23-year-old artist with severe autism. As an added attraction for local film enthusiasts, John Skillen, former librarian and film programmer at the Montclair Public Library, will present examples and lead discussion of historic animation shorts that have influenced animators for decades. WAE Beyond: A Members’ Club, offers evening and weekend socializing, learning, and creative opportunities for adults with disabilities. WAE Beyond Program Coordinator Sherri Zuckerman will be happy to answer any questions:973-272-7150, szuckerman@jsddmetrowest.org.
