JSDD support and community educational programming is designed to help families navigate the system and become the strongest possible advocates for their family member(s).
Towards that goal, JSDD works collaboratively with the MetroWest ABLE coalition of partner agencies to provide four workshops per year that give families the tools they need. In the past, topics have included transition to adulthood, estate planning, assisted employment, guardianship, sibling support and working with the state’s Division of Developmental Disabilities to obtain services.
In addition, JSDD actively participates in a grassroots advocacy network both locally and statewide through professional and volunteer associations. This growing coalition monitors legislative initiatives and coordinates activities to keep the needs of individuals and families coping with developmental disabilities on the community agenda.
