Yvette Lucas’s concept for the Chairs of Inclusion is acceptance and welcoming, comforting and healing. The “Care Chair” is a seat that invites everyone to sit in and feel loved. The base of the chair is made from African mud cloth, a fabric from Mali that is produced by both men and women together with colors and fibers that come from the earth. Out of that “ground” springs images of trees and branches that offer an embrace of prayers, wishes, and the arms of the members who participate in this project. The chair gently rocks and swivels whoever sits in it and keeps them safe.
