Passover

Shabbat celebrations began this week with Stacy C. and Debbie chanting the blessing over the candles. Mark performed the blessings over the grape juice and the matzah.  Since this is the last full day of Passover, the group enjoyed matzah instead of challah. Next, there was a video about the preparation of matzah.  An interesting fact is that in order to be considered Kosher and allowed to be eaten on Passover, matzah must be made in 18 minutes from the time the water and flour touch until it comes out of the oven, otherwise there is time where the ingredients could ferment and not allowed to be consumed.  Daniel and Stacy C. both said they really enjoy matzah and had […]

Story by Jessica Goldstein The Heidi Art Gallery was full of smiles, laughs, greeting friends and air hugs. On December 16th, after a hiatus last year, JSDD hosted the annual holiday party for the Residential Staff.                 The beautiful and versatile gallery was festive with decorations and holiday music, but it was the art of the WAE Center members that shined. For many of the Direct Service Professionals (DSPs) it was their first time in the new JSDD building. The staff enjoyed a delicious catered meal. Hagit Oren, Judaic Coordinator travels to each of the JSDD Residential Group Homes and teaches the women and men about Jewish Holidays and customs.  With Passover around the corner it times to learn about the holiday and the delicious foods that will be served at the Passover Seder.

On April 14, 2019 a Chavurah Class held at the WAE Center welcomed Rabbi Moshe Rudin from Adath Shalom in Morris Plains, NJ.  He came and taught the class about Passover, played guitar, sang songs, and assisted in helping everyone to make Matza!
