INSPIRED BY QUILTS – STUDIO MONTCLAIR

The Wae Center has been honored with the invitation to participate in the upcoming Studio Montclair exhibition “Inspired by Quilts”.  The show was curated by Virginia S. Block, Jane Mitchell, and our very own Yvette Lucas.  The artwork created by our members is the result of a 2 ½ month long workshop; producing thirty-five 12”x12” panels that will be pieced together in a 7’x5’ quilt-like display on one wall.  The panels are imaginative, personal, and quite varied.

The show is presented in partnership with the Montclair History Center under the umbrella of Studio Montclair’s Virginia S. Block Community Partnership Exhibition Program. This exhibit will be on view at the Studio Montclair Gallery from September 5th to October 19th, 2019 and features artwork inspired by the antique quilt collection at the Montclair History Center. It encompasses not only quilts but also sculpture, photography, collage, works on paper and canvas, computer-generated works, encaustic art, and ceramic relief. All of the works—many of which are non-objective—embody a physical or emotional reference to the quilt collection.
