Why couldn’t there be something called ‘culinary therapy?’” Thus began the mission that now brings Chef Cardie Mortimer to JSDD’s WAE Center and the WAE Beyond Members’ Club to share his enlightening, funny, emotional message about enjoying life and living every day to the fullest. He uses his 30+ years of professional culinary experience, as well as an acting background, to entertain and engage the audience while serving a delicious meal. WAE Beyond: A Members’ Club will present its first Film Festival on Sunday, March 18, 2012, 1-4 p.m. at JSDD’s WAE (Wellness Arts Enrichment) Center, located at 270 Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange, NJ. Admission to the show is $10, payable at the door. The Film Festival will feature original short works, reflecting a variety of topics, by members of the WAE Beyond and WAE Centerprograms as well as selected submissions from local filmmakers. Styles include traditional and computer generated animation, live action narrative, and documentary. The longest selection (18 minutes) is Breaking Boundaries: the Art of Alex Masket, a documentary by Dennis Connors about a 23-year-old artist with severe autism. WAE Beyond: A Members’ Club will launch a six-session INTRODUCTION TO WEAVING workshop beginning Thursday evening, February 23, 6 to 8 pm and continuing each Thursday evening until March 29. Students will learn basic weaving techniques on a table loom with the ultimate goal of creating a finished scarf. The classes are co-taught by Margaret Bodell and Cynthia Alberto, artists who are passionate about sharing their love of fabrics and the creative process with individuals of all ability levels. Weaving is an excellent way for individuals to increase their motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Sold!  Carrie P. and Narcissa L. celebrated the opening of the 20th annual NYC Outsiders Art Fair.  Also at the opening night festivities were artists, Mark L. and Kevin C.  whose work was being exhibited.  The Bodell/Fahey Umbrella Arts booth was buzzing with artists, family, board members and new fans of the work of the JSDD WAE Center artists!
