WAE Center News

Sukkot 2019 (October 13-20, 2019) Sukkot is a weeklong Jewish holiday that comes five days after Yom Kippur. Sukkot celebrates the gathering of the harvest and commemorates the miraculous protection G‑d provided for the children of Israel when they left Egypt. We celebrate Sukkot by dwelling in a foliage-covered booth (known as a sukkah) and by taking the “Four Kinds” (arba minim), four special species of vegetation. We were thrilled to experience the work of Elizabeth Streb at the George Segal Gallery at Montclair State University (https://www.montclair.edu/galleries/).  In addition to being led through the exhibit “EXTREME: The PopAction Performance Art of Elizabeth Streb” by Art Gallery Education Coordinator Adam Swart, we also got to take in close to 30 minutes of a rehearsal that the troupe was having.  Alive, electric, dangerous, physical, and exciting the company tests the bounds of performance and extreme action in their performances.  Definitely check them out if get the opportunity: https://streb.org/ With kind regards, Harry Klein, WAE Center Art Studio Manager

We got back to our friends at SOPAC (https://www.sopacnow.org/gallery/) to see the “Convergence” exhibit, on display September 12th through November 3rd.  WAE Center ally and gallery curator Jeremy Moss, met us to take us through the show.  The work was done by 2 sisters and it was one of the largest exhibits ever hung in the space.  Abstract and inspiring, we took time onsite after the tour, to come up with some of our own artwork.  With Kind Regards, Harry Klein, WAE Center Art Studio Manager
